Nantwich Scouts participate in UK Parliament Week 1

Members of 7th SWC Millfields Nantwich Scouts enjoyed participating in this year’s UK Parliament Week.

UK Parliament Week is an annual festival that engages people across the UK with Parliament, explores what it means to them and empowers them to get involved.

Organisations across the UK run events and activities throughout UK Parliament Week which explore what the UK Parliament means to them and their community.

The scouts learned about the different positions and roles in parliament, taking part in a vote and testing their knowledge.

And as this year marks 100 years since the first women were able to vote in UK Parliamentary elections, time was spent focusing on the Suffragettes.

The Suffragettes were members of women’s organisations led by Emmeline Pankhurst in the late-19th and early 20th centuries which advocated the extension of the “franchise”, or the right to vote in public elections, to women.

UK Parliament Week has been developed by the Houses of Parliament as part of its Education and Engagement Service.
