Guitar raffle - Beerdock, Buzzcocks

The boss of award-winning South Cheshire business BeerDock has raised £3,500 for local charities after selling a rare signed guitar used by the band The Buzzcocks.

Samuel McGarrigle, who owns and runs BeerDock, raffled the guitar signed by the punk band following the death of their lead singer Pete Shelley in December.

Samuel had the guitar signed at The M Club when the Buzzcocks played at the venue over ten years ago.

He had kept the guitar on the wall at the stock room of BeerDock, but decided instead of selling it or auctioning it, he would sell raffle tickets giving Buzzcocks fans a chance to win it.

He said: “We knew we wanted to do something special with the guitar, and decided that raffling it off was the best way to do it.

“We wanted to give the money to charity and decided upon the two charities early on.!

The sum raised was £3,238, with BeerDock adding extra to round the figure up to £3,500.

Funds will be split between two charities – St Paul’s Centre and Chance Changing Lives.

Both offer vital support for struggling adults and homeless people in the Crewe community.

Rev Rob Wykes, from St Paul’s, added: “We were absolutely delighted to benefit from Beerdock’s raffle and their generous customers efforts.

“We are pleased the money will go to help local people, it was truly a community effort from the people of Crewe and those that bought tickets.”

Natasha Maroni, from Chance Changing Lives, said: “Every penny will go to our homeless or vulnerable in the community either supporting individuals or who may be experiencing financial hardship.”

BeerDock made the draw live over the Internet on December 23, and donated £1,750 to each charity on Christmas Eve.

Beerdock’s raffle tickets were bought by people as far away as Los Angeles, Russia and all over the UK.

The winner is Paul, a huge Punk rock fan from Leeds, who works in the music business as a sound engineer, and a massive Buzzcocks fan.

Paul collected the guitar on Sunday January 6 and intends to hang it on his wall.
