nantwich town FA cup win over King's Lynn

Nantwich Town secured a famous win over higher league opposition to reach the FA Cup 1st Round Proper for only the third time in their history.

And it was nothing more than the Dabbers deserved as they dominated King’s Lynn Town in front of a bumper crowd at the Weaver Stadium.

It was Troy Bourne’s scrambled goal shortly before the break which decided the contest.

Bourne was on hand to stab home the ball on 38 minutes after a cross from the left caused confusion in the visitors’ box.

Nantwich could and should have won by a greater margin, as they dominated the Linnets for long periods.

Joe Malkin and the towering Schousboe caused the defence countless problems, and Street in the King’s Lynn goal had to come to the rescue numerous times before the break.

Fox offered an outlet for the visitors who rarely troubled Hall in the Nantwich nets.

Then Bourne struck the decisive goal when he latched on to a looping cross at the far post and stabbed home.

It was his first ever goal for Nantwich and took the hosts into a half-time lead.

Joe Mwasile almost set up a second after coming on as a substitute on the hour mark.

He dribbled past two or three King’s Lynn defenders and found Webb, who curled an effort off the crossbar.

Malkin flashed a shot just wide a few minutes later, before Henderson’s header for the visitors was ruled out for offside on 70 minutes.

Lynn’s best chance to level fell to Natty Stewart a few minutes from the end.

The substitute saw his effort tipped over the bar by the impressive Hall.

Nantwich’s victory earns them £18,750 from The FA prize fund.

The draw for the FA Cup 1st Round Proper will take place on Monday (October 21) at 7pm.

One team will receive a bye into the Second Round after Bury was forced to withdraw from League One.

Nantwich are ball 53 in the draw, with League Two neighbours and table-toppers Crewe Alexandra ball number 14.

  1. Great result for the guy’s and well deserved. Credit must also go to the reporting of the Lynn news who give Nantwich a great write up saying it was richly deserved.
