Michelle and Adam Dunne - son grave damaged

A heartbroken Nantwich couple have hit out at vandals who trampled on and damaged their son’s grave in Whitehouse Lane cemetery.

Police are probing the incident, which also saw damage to other graves in the cemetery.

Michelle and Adam Dunne saw the damage when they went to visit their son Theo’s grave. White fencing around the site had been broken and the ground trampled on.

They said beer cans were also strewn around the cemetery, and other graves had trample marks over them.

“We sadly lost Theo Anthony last June, he was born sleeping,” said Michelle.

“We go to his grave every other day when we can, it makes us feel closer to him, and it was so distressing to see the damage caused. Who would do such a thing?”

Theo was to be Michelle and Adam’s first child after they had tried for two years to conceive.

The couple, of Queens Drive, Nantwich, also have carers due to physical and learning disabilities.

Michelle, 36, added: “When we arrived and we got out of the car to find damage had been done to some of his grave, we were devastated.

“It’s hard enough going there but to find the damage – we were so angry and upset that someone could be so cruel.

“This is especially distressing as we both have physical and learning disabilities.”

Michelle’s dad Stephen Foxley hand made the white fencing around Theo’s grave.

He said: “I put the fence around it to make it look nice for my daughter and son-in-law and some mindless person has seen fit to have a laugh and stamped on the fence.

“It makes me so sad but I feel so sorry for these people who get their kicks from damaging graves.”

Nantwich Police said they will be stepping up patrols around the cemetery to deter vandals.

Sgt Ian Bennett said: “A local officer met Michelle up at the cemetery to discuss the matter and offer reassurance.

“As it stands we have no lines of enquiry with no one witnessing the damage or CCTV.

“This kind of crime is abhorrent and our thoughts go out to the family.

“We would be keen for anyone who has information to please contact us on 101 quoting the crime number 20000237405.”

  1. This is shocking and totally disrespectful.
I don’t think it’s fair to blame teenagers. No one knows that this is the case but the older generation always like to blame them for everything and anything they can. Give young people a break!

    • You could be right ,but I am only seventeen myself,I would be surprised if it was a group of people in there 60s
And yes they could well be male and female

  2. Total mindless idiots, the police need to clamp down on them, this is supposed to be a lock down, parents where are your teenagers if they are not at home with you?
