Tim Bowker and his indoor bicycle after completing his ride (1)

Two Nantwich residents have helped raise thousands of pounds for NHS Charities – by pedalling and running thousands of miles in their own homes!

Tim Bowker and Isabel Cundy staged their own challenges indoors throughout April.

Tim, 51, (pictured) who runs Nantwich Refrigeration Services, wanted to help local charities during the UK lockdown due to the coronavirus crisis.

He cycled 512 miles on his stationary indoor bicycle at his house over 14 days in April.

His ride has raised £1,800 which will be split between Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Alzheimer’s Society, Kidney Care UK, and Wych-Malbank Rotary Club in Nantwich.

He said: “I am overwhelmed by the donations – thank you so much to everyone who supported and sponsored me.”

Meanwhile, Brine Leas School worker Isabel ran 10km every day in April and raised more than £4,000.

Isabel, who lives in Chorley, wanted to “give a little back” and was keen to help NHS workers battling to beat the COVID-19 pandemic gripping the UK.

She set an original £500 target – but smashed this by raising more than £4,000!

She said: “The challenge was tough at times but worth every step as with gift aid the total raised was £4292! I am overwhelmed.

“I have done lots of running in the past, mostly 5 and 10k races but thought given I have more time on my hands I could run everyday and try and raise money to help the NHS in challenging times.”
