Nantwich cricketers who are unable to play due to the pandemic, are going in to bat for St Luke’s Hospice instead.

Members of Nantwich Cricket Club are taking on the challenge of cycling to each cricket ground in the Cheshire Premier League in just one day.

The 150-mile route will start at Nantwich Cricket Club on Whitehouse Lane and cover grounds such as Chester Boughton Hall, Neston and Hyde.

Scott Wardley, from the cricket club, said: “With the cricket season delayed due to COVID-19 some members of Nantwich Cricket Club have decided to take on another challenge.

“Instead of playing at each cricket ground this season, on Saturday 18th July they have decided to take on a mammoth challenge and will be cycling to each cricket ground in the Cheshire Premier League.

“We chose St Luke’s as it’s a great local charity that has offered some amazing help to a number of families from our club over the years and to families all around the county.

“There are 11 of us attempting the challenge. The plan is to leave Nantwich at 6am and complete the challenge in 12 hours – fingers crossed!

“Please get behind us and help raise money for such a worthy charity.”

Angela Slack, Community Partnerships Manager for St Luke’s Hospice, said: “We are just ‘bowled over’ by the amazing fundraising efforts of Nantwich Cricket Club.

“In the first 24 hours of launching the challenge they raised over £1,000 for our Hospice, which is just incredible, and they’ve set a target of £5,000 which will make a big difference to patient care here at St Luke’s.

“We wish them the best of luck for the challenge and can’t thank them enough for thinking of St Luke’s at this time.”
