A brilliant knock by Luke Robinson and a five-wicket haul from Jason Foulkes gave Nantwich CC 1sts a welcome win in the Cheshire County Cricket League at Oxton.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat and looked to be heading for a decent total when they passed 100 for the loss of only two wickets.
But Foulkes ripped through the middle and late order, taking 5-57, and was ably supported by skipper Ray Doyle (2-35) and Ollie Griffiths (2-31) as Oxton were bowled out for 161.
The Nantwich reply got off to a poor start, but Robinson and Ali Chughtai came together with the score on 22-2 and put on 109 for the third wicket.
Robinson was in brutal form, hitting seven sixes in a 58-ball 86. And when he departed, Jake Pearson (14 not out) joined Chughtai (50 not out) to finish the job inside 26 overs.
There was not such good news from the Dabbers opening T20 game of the season as they slipped to a disappointing 32-run defeat at Toft CC.
Foulkes and Scott Wardley took three wickets apiece as Toft, who had chosen to bat, made 141-9 from their 20 overs.
It looked a reachable total but the fact that Doyle top-scored with 19 told its own story and Nantwich fell well short of their target.
The first team’s next T20 game is on home soil when they face fellow Premier League side Bowdon CC on Thursday, June 12, 6pm start.
Before that, the 1sts face Widnes CC at Whitehouse Lane in Saturday’s Premier League fixture, midday start.
Nantwich 2nds slipped to a defeat last Saturday after putting Cheadle CC into bat.
Joe Bolton and skipper Alan Chesters took three wickets apiece but the visitors still amassed 245 all out.
The home side was up with the pace at 111-2 but lost their last eight wickets for only 39 runs.
There was, though, a welcome win for the Saturday 3rds who made 206-4 after being put into bat by JG Meakin CC third team.
Robert Howell crafted an unbeaten 85 and Sam Williams hit two sixes in a quickfire 57.
In reply, the visitors were always in trouble, Williams completing a fine all-round display by taking 5-24.
The Sunday 3rds suffered a reverse at Stockport Georgians CC, where they could only make 125 all out after electing to bat, Oliver Howell top-scoring with 59.
Set a revised target of 110 from 31 overs, the home side cruised home with six wickets and five overs to spare.
There was also disappointment for Nantwich Women’s 1sts, who lost their T20 Championship home game to Lindow.
Morganne Prince (40 retired not out) was the top-scorer in the Dabbers’ total of 117-4 but the visitors reached their target with eight wickets and more than six overs to spare.
