A primary school in Wistaston went into “lockdown” amid fears of a gunshot being fired nearby, it has emerged.
Pupils at Wistaston Church Lane School were barricaded into a classroom with blinds closed, lights off and doors locked during the incident.
It happened at around 1.30pm on Friday (June 13) at the school which has around 430 pupils aged 3 to 11.
In a message to parents on Friday afternoon, Church Lane School headteacher Cathy Elsley confirmed that the school “had a lockdown situation”.
She added: “This was fully investigated and the school is now running as normal.
“We can confirm there was no danger to the children at any point.
“We apologise for any concern this may have caused the children but their safety is always our top priority.”
Cheshire Police confirm staff at the school contacted them but there has been no evidence found of a gunshot being fired.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At 2.30pm on Friday 13 June police were contacted by staff at a primary school in Wistaston.
“The school reported that at around 1.50pm they had heard a loud popping noise in a nearby field and the children had been taken inside as a precaution.
“There were no reports of any similar incidents and police did not attend the school.”

Townies. Probably a bird scarer. They wont need to worry though Labour will soon ensure there are no fields or farming left
