Crewe CC 2 - Lew Bacon

Crewe Vagrants CC 1st team made it eight wins from eight matches with victory away at Wedgewood.

Opening bowlers Ollie Jarvis, with his usual tightness, coupled with captain Cal Bacon’s superb 4 for 39 gave Crewe the required early breakthrough.

Wedgewood’s Usman Saleem (45) and Ranzam Mohammed (22) in a 52 run partnership, put their team back on the road to a respectable target.

After Usman fell to Rory Kalnins (1-8) and wickets fell regularly to top wicket-taker Ben Jarvis (3-29) and reliable Faisal Mahmood (2-25) as the hosts finished all out for 141.

Crewe lost Nathan Twiddle early, but a telling partnership of 108 between Ollie Jarvis (50 NO) and dependable opener Rory Kalnins (51) broke the back of Crewe’s chase.

Keeper Ryan Briddon (10NO) joined Ollie to see the game to its conclusion with many overs left.

Crewe 2nds have won their last four matches and they are climbing the table after beating Onneley at home.

Evergreen Richard Jarvis (54) and young Matt Whittingham (14) followed by returning Mark Hurst (15) gave Crewe an encouraging start.

In-form Haveesh Alluri (33) continued the runs and in a good 59 partnership with Richard’s excellent knock, took the score past the 100 mark. Frazier Hoye added 28 and they finished on 212 for 9.

Onneley’s batters struggled against the bowling of Johnathan Bourne (3-11) and Johnathan Minshull (2-27).

Apart from brief resistance from Mahmood (25) and Geoff Hall (21NO) the remaining batters fell regularly to Pasha Mulbeen (2-14), Frazier Hoye (1-22) and Mike Whittingham (1-3) with a final 92 all out.

Crewe CC Ladies fell to defeat at table toppers Elworth.

Fielding first, Crewe started well with a tidy opening three overs including a run out by Clair Walker-Hulse.

However, Elworth got into their stride and found the boundary with regularity.

Three more wickets fell through catches by Jess Kimberley and Ailsa Meakin off the bowling of Nicki Jarvis and Hannah Jarvis as well as a run out from Rosie Meakin combining with Ailsa behind the stumps.

However, Elworth’s total of net 112 proved too much of a challenge on the day for Crewe’s batters.

Several wickets fell and only Ailsa Meakin reached a net score in double figures.

In spite of the loss, Crewe remain in second place in their division.

In round 3 of the Softball Knockout Cup against Northwich, Crewe fielded first and made a good start with a maiden over from Dawn Price who finished with impressive figures of 3 overs for 10.

At half way, Northwich had pushed on to 44 for no loss but a breakthrough came in the 11th over with a wicket by Nicki Jarvis.

Wicket taking opportunities were few and far between and Northwich’s final pair upped the run rate, taking their total to net 101.

Crewe lost less wickets than in recent games but their batting was kept in check by accurate good length Northwich bowling and excellent fielding to stop boundaries.

Top scorer was Jess Kimberley with net 15 but Crewe finished 35 runs off the target.

This weekend, Crewe 1sts travel to Norton-on-Hales with the 2nds at home to Betley.
