The A500 was closed both ways last night after police were called to talk a man down from a bridge.

The incident happened at around 6pm on the bridge spanning the single carriageway section at Barthomley, between Shavington and the M6.

The road was closed for around 90 minutes as trained officers talked the 22-year-old man from Crewe down to safety.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 6pm on Monday 23 June, police were called to concerns for the welfare of a man on a bridge on the A500 in Barthomley.

“Police attended and engaged with the man while the road was closed as a precautionary measure.

“The man came down from the bridge at around 7pm and was passed to the care of paramedics.”
