Former England, Aston Villa and Crewe Alexandra star David Platt will be guest speaker at the official launch of Nantwich Town’s “Dabbers in the Community” initiative.
Platt, now aged 59, will be telling stories of his incredible career at the event on Thursday 17th July from 7pm.
The attacking midfielder scored the legendary winning goal against Belgium in Italia 90, won trophies in Italy, was part of the double-winning Arsenal side, and was in the coaching team at Manchester City for the dramatic title victory in 2012.
He started at Crewe Alex where he scored 55 goals in 134 appearances, securing them promotion and then a high profile move to Aston Villa in 1988.
He went on to score 50 goals in 121 appearances for Villa before a move to Bari in Italy in 1991. He also played for Juventus and Sampdoria before returning to England to play for Arsenal.
He scored 27 goals in 62 caps for England – including THAT goal in Italia 90.
Proceeds from the event will go towards replacing the old 3G pitch and the facilities around it, a key part of the “Dabbers in the Community” initiative.
It’s hoped a new pitch will enhance all aspects of the club’s youth and community football offering.
It is the latest of several fundraising events that the club and its volunteers will be staging over the coming months.
Tickets for the evening with David Platt are just £12.50 each, or £100 for a table of 10.
