Nantwich Cricket Club first team’s winning momentum continued as a six-wicket haul for Jason Foulkes and a brilliant knock from Luke Robinson gave them a hard-fought win over Lindow CC at Whitehouse Lane.
Having won the toss and elected to field, Ray Doyle’s decision was vindicated when Foulkes (6-40) ran through the top order, reducing the visitors to 38-4.
Lindow’s middle order staged something of a revival but Scott Wardley came into the attack and took four wickets in an eight-over spell to wrap up the innings.
Set a target of 187, Nantwich got off to a disastrous start, losing two wickets in the first three balls, meaning Robinson came to the crease with the score at 0-2.
Robinson (pictured) hit Jamieson Hedges’ hat-trick ball for a boundary but Nantwich slipped into deeper trouble when Hedges got Ali Chughtai to edge behind, leaving the Dabbers on 21-3.
But Robinson then shared partnerships of 63 with Spencer Byatt (22), 50 with Jake Pearson (28) and 38 with Doyle (25no) to put Nantwich on a winning course.
Robinson was eventually out for 89 but Foulkes joined Doyle to finish the job and see Nantwich home by three wickets.
On Saturday, the 1sts travel to Chester Boughton Hall CC and anyone intending to go along to watch should note it is an 11am start.
While the 1sts are on a winning roll, there were defeats for the 2nd team and the Saturday 3rds.
Oliver Howell’s unbeaten 83 was the centrepiece of the 2nd XI’s 240-7 from their 50 overs at Toft after skipper Alan Chesters had chosen to bat.
Although Freddie Woodfine claimed three wickets, Toft were always ahead of the run rate and passed their target with five wickets and seven overs to spare.
The Saturday 3rds had a game to forget against Caverswall CC, falling to 66 all out after deciding to bat.
Mark French took three wickets but the visitors passed the target inside 10 overs and with five wickets to spare.
The Sunday 3rds earned a resounding victory after restricting visiting Grappenhall to 213-8 from their 40 overs, Freddie Sant (4-55) the pick of the bowlers.
In what proved to be a cracking weekend for Oliver Howell, the Nantwich opener struck an unbeaten 103 and shared an unbroken partnership of 121 with Arthur Bate (53no) to see the Dabbers home by eight wickets.
Nantwich Women’s 1st team struggled as they were beaten by nine wickets at Chester Boughton Hall.
Rebecca Othick hit an unbeaten 39 but the visitors’ total of 97, having been put into bat, never looked competitive as the home team passed their target with nine wickets to spare.
The women’s 1sts will be hoping for a better outcome on Sunday when they entertain Lindow CC at Whitehouse Lane. The game starts at 1.30pm and all spectators are welcome.
On Saturday, the men’s 2nd team are home to Widnes, with the game starting at midday.
