Nantwich Cricket Club’s quest for a third visit to Lord’s continues this Sunday when they face Knowle & Dorridge CC in the last 16 of the ECB National Club Championship.

Skipper Ray Doyle has twice led his side to the final of the country’s premier club knockout competition and is now three steps from another trip to the Home of Cricket.

But the Dabbers face a tough task at Whitehouse Lane as Knowle & Dorridge currently sit top of the Birmingham League.

With the visitors expected to bring strong support, all home backing would be appreciated.

The game starts at 1pm and the bar will be open all day.

The first team is going into this weekend in good form, having chalked up an impressive win at Chester Boughton Hall in the Cheshire County Cricket League last Saturday.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Chester were 232 all out from 55 overs, Jason Foulkes again among the wickets, taking 4-82.

The Nantwich run chase suffered some early setbacks and the game looked in the balance when the visitors were reduced to 65-3.

But supported by Spencer Byatt (50), Luke Robinson then put Chester to the sword, hitting a magnificent unbeaten 126 that included five sixes and 16 fours to set up a six-wicket win.

For the second team, Jackson Bentley also hit an unbeaten century, hitting a six and 17 fours in his 103 as Nantwich chased down a Widnes total of 241 with four wickets and three overs to spare.

The third team made it a Saturday clean sweep as Callum Pearson (44) led a successful chase of Woore’s 143-8 from 40 overs, the visitors winning by five wickets with 17 overs to spare.

It was not such a good day for Nantwich women’s first eleven against Lindow CC on Sunday.

Bethan Hughes’ 49 was the highlight of the Dabbers innings after Nantwich were put into bat but a total of 156-5 proved comfortably within reach for the visitors, who passed their target without losing a wicket.

At Whitehouse Lane this Saturday, the men’s second team entertain Stockport Georgians CC, the game starting at midday. All spectators are welcome.
