Curtain Call Productions delighted the audience at The Lyceum this week with their latest show, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, writes Claire Faulkner.
I was lucky enough to watch the show on opening night, and it was absolute joy from start to finish.
The musical tells the story of a young boy who fights to overcome bullying and prejudice to pursue his dream of becoming a drag queen.
Director Sean Johnson-Hargreaves has told this story in an incredibly poignant, powerful and beautiful way.
The opening number ‘And You Don’t Even Know It’ set a high standard for the rest of the show to follow.
The ensemble did an amazing job throughout, their enthusiasm and energy was contagious and was felt by the audience.
Choreographer Rhianne Stubbs has produced some amazing numbers, and congratulations to Malcolm Forbes-Peckham and Treona Holden for the music which sounded exceptional.
Adam Cusack stole the hearts of the audience as Jamie, he was just perfect in this role. Lucy Page was wonderful as Margaret, she completely captivated the audience during her performance of ‘If I Met Myself Again’; as did Emma Frazer as Pritti, with a stunning performance of ‘It Means Beautiful’.
This was a first class show; which looked and sounded fantastic. It’s also heartfelt and funny.
Congratulations to all involved, the standing ovation the audience gave you on Tuesday night was very well deserved.
If I could come back and watch it all over again, I would.
