Nantwich Cricket Club’s hopes of a third visit to Lord’s in seven years were dashed when they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Knowle & Dorridge CC in the last 16 of the ECB National Club Championship.

After winning the toss and putting the visitors into bat, the Dabbers looked to be in a decent position as a spell of 3-38 from Ollie Griffiths helped reduce Knowle & Dorridge to 145-6.

But Oliver Currie and George Baines put on an explosive partnership of 145 in only 16 overs to help the Birmingham League leaders to an imposing total of 301-7 from their 40 overs.

And when Ray Doyle’s side fell to 38-3 in reply, the writing was on the wall and only Luke Robinson (42) made any serious inroads into the target, the home side eventually bowled out for 144.

It was a disappointing end to a weekend when the Dabbers climbed into third spot in the Cheshire County Cricket League courtesy of a three-wicket win in a low-scoring affair at Brooklands CC.

Mitchell Spencer did the damage with the ball, claiming 5-51 after the home side, having chosen to bat first, were bowled out for 111.

Chasing the very modest target, it was not all plain sailing for Nantwich but the in-form Robinson made an unbeaten 42 to steer the visitors to a three-wicket win.

This Saturday at Whitehouse Lane, Nantwich 1sts entertain Timperley and all spectators are welcome for a midday start. The bar will be open all day.

Nantwich 2nds also recorded a good win on Saturday, beating Stockport Georgians CC at Whitehouse Lane by eight wickets.

Denny Morgan took four wickets and Jakob Jordan and Joe Bolton three apiece as the visitors were bowled out for 160 after being put into bat by skipper Alan Chesters.

An opening partnership of 91 between Jordan (43) and Owen Silvester (39) gave Nantwich the perfect start and they were taken to victory by Oliver Howell (33no) and Jackson Bentley (35no).

For the Saturday 3rd team, Jacob Howell took 4-72 against Endon CC second eleven but the home side still managed a total of 241-7 from their 40 overs.

Cameron Langdale made 42 and Noah Birchall 40 in the Nantwich reply but they were never up with the run rate and fell 62 runs short on 179-6.

The Sunday 3rds (120 all out) also lost, going down by 118 runs to Timperley (238-9).
