A driver was seriously injured after his car crashed into a tree on the A49 at Ridley, near Nantwich, late last night (July 20).

Fire crews had to cut the trapped motorist free at around 11.10pm and paramedics attended to give him treatment before taking them to hospital.

Fire crews from Nantwich and Tarporley attended the incident, and police closed the road in both directions.

A Cheshire Fire Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters attended a single-vehicle road traffic collision where the driver required rescuing from their car.

“The car was on all four wheels, and crews removed the doors to access the trapped casualty.

“Paramedics monitored them while crews worked to release them. They were taken to hospital by ambulance.

“Police were also in attendance and closed the road in both directions.”

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At 11.15pm on Sunday 20 July, police were called to a collision on the A49 Whitchurch Road, Ridley.

“Officers attended and found a black Land Rover Discovery had collided with a tree.

“The driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was taken to Leighton Hospital, where he remains at this time.”
