Malbank School choir

Malbank School in Nantwich were in fine voice when their choir took a tour of Belgium and performed two concerts.

The choir – called Malbank Voices – performed concerts at the Sint-Carolus nursing home in Kortrijk and on the bandstand in Ostend town square.

They also enjoyed trips to Laarne Castle, Sanctuary Wood museum, Tyne Cot memorial and a canal boat trip in Brugge.

But the highlight came when the choir was invited to sing at the Menin Gate War Memorial for the daily Last Post Ceremony on July 7.

Stewart Cope, Head of Music at Malbank, said: “The memorial had been re-inaugurated that morning by Princess Anne and Princess Claire of Belgium after two years of renovations.

“And although Royalty weren’t present for the evening ceremony, we were honoured to be the first group to perform since the re-inauguration!

“The choir delivered a beautiful performance of Amazing Grace during the wreath laying ceremony, where Miss Gabbatiss laid a wreath on behalf of the school.

“Some of our students were even interviewed by French TV afterwards!

“The students were amazing for the whole trip, an absolute credit to themselves and the school.”
