Ali Chughtai’s good form with the bat continued but Nantwich Cricket Club’s first team had to settle for a draw at title rivals Didsbury.
In a game reduced to 20 overs a side by the weather conditions, the visitors put Didsbury into bat and Jason Foulkes, pictured, (4-47) was the pick of the bowlers as the home team posted 155-8.
With Chughtai motoring along, the Dabbers were making a good fist of their reply.
But when the Nantwich opener was run out for 67 from 48 balls, the chase faltered, and Ben Wright and Scott Wardley had to see out the last five balls to secure a draw for Ray Doyle’s side.
The result means Nantwich stay third in the ECB Premier League table, behind Didsbury and Hyde, who face each other on Saturday.
That makes the Dabbers’ home fixture against Neston CC a must-win match and all support is most welcome.
The game at Whitehouse Lane begins at midday and the bar will be open.
The second team also faced Didsbury last Saturday and suffered a heavy home defeat.
James Michell was the pick of the home batsmen, making 63 in a total of 171 all out.
Didsbury never had any problems in reply and coasted home with nine wickets to spare inside 28 overs.
The Saturday thirds were also soundly beaten, only two players getting into double figures as they were restricted to 67-8 at Newcastle and Hartshill, who reached their target for the loss of four wickets.
The Sunday games for the men’s third team and the women’s first team were abandoned but the latter did complete a T20 Cup match against Didsbury on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, they were beaten by eight wickets after posting 69-9.
Didsbury got home inside 12 overs.
