Luke Robinson of Nantwich CC

A typically stylish knock from Luke Robinson and another five-wicket haul from Scott Wardley were the highlights of a thumping win for Nantwich Cricket Club 1sts.

Put into bat by hosts Bowdon, the Dabbers were always on the front foot thanks to useful contributions from Yash Pednekar (26), Ali Chughtai (20), Spencer Byatt (21), Jake Pearson (43) and Ben Wright (49).

With top-scoring Robinson (pictured) hitting a six and 13 fours in his 81-ball 85, Nantwich posted an imposing 283-8 from their 50 overs and the home side never looked like reaching their target.

Mitchell Spencer and Jason Foulkes made early breakthroughs with the ball and it was then over to Wardley and Denny Morgan to run through the Bowdon line-up.

Morgan took 3-30 from 10 overs and Wardley 5-22, also from 10 overs, as Nantwich won by a whopping 189 runs.

With Didsbury and Hyde also winning, Nantwich remain third in the Cheshire County Cricket Premier League table with five matches left to play.

Their next fixture is a home game against Oxton CC on Saturday. All spectators are more than welcome for a midday start at Whitehouse Lane where the bar will be open all day.

While the firsts recorded an emphatic victory, the seconds suffered an emphatic defeat at home to Oxton CC seconds.

Having elected to bat, the visitors racked up an impressive 318-7 from their 50 overs and although Nantwich got off to a rapid start, wickets fell regularly and they were eventually bowled out for 155, Freddy Woodfine top-scoring with an unbeaten 31.

The Saturday thirds also lost but their contest with Stafford CC turned into a tight affair as Nantwich tried to chase down the visitors’ 205-6 from 40 overs.

Chris Simpson led the chase with 53 and there was also an unbeaten 55 from Robert Howell, as well as useful contributions from Cameron Langdale (40) and Gareth Mitchell (26no).

But the home side could not find the winning runs, falling four short on 201-5 from their 40 overs.

The Sunday thirds, however, did manage to get a win, thanks to sparkling contributions from Jakob Jordan and Freddie Sant at Toft CC.

Jordan’s brilliant summer continued as he hit a third century of the season, his 107 dominating a Nantwich total of 185 all out after they had won the toss and chosen to bat.

In reply, Toft were restricted to 164-9 as Sant hit the stumps four times in his 5-19 from eight overs.

Also on Sunday, there was a much-needed victory for Nantwich women’s first eleven at Whitehouse Lane.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Morganne Prince (40) and Bethan Hughes (67) put on 95 for the first wicket against Leigh CC, laying the foundation for a total of 188-8 from their 40 overs.

In the Leigh reply, Katie Hazeldine, Izzi Pearson and Eleanor Sinker all chipped in with a couple of wickets apiece as the visitors were bowled out for 156.

The women’s first team has another home game on Sunday, hosting Leyland CC at Whitehouse Lane. The game starts at 1.30pm and all spectators are welcome.
