Yash Pednekar - Nantwich CC

A brilliant century from Yash Pednekar helped Nantwich maintain the pressure on leaders Didsbury at the top of the Cheshire County Cricket League.

The Australian opener hit a six and 17 fours in an unbeaten 111 as the Dabbers made light work of chasing down Oxton’s total of 208.

Pednekar shared half-century partnerships with Ali Chughtai (26), Spencer Byatt (24) and skipper Ray Doyle (31no) as the home side cruised home with seven wickets and 16 overs to spare.

Having won the toss, Oxton elected to bat and looked set for a big total at 141-2.

But Jason Foulkes (3-27), Ben Wright (3-41) and Scott Wardley (2-48) pegged the visitors back to set up a victory that moved the defending champions into second place in the Premier League.

With four games remaining, Nantwich are 32 points behind leaders Didsbury and travel to Widnes on Saturday (August 23).

The action at Whitehouse Lane will come from the 2nds who pulled off a remarkable win at Cheadle last weekend, thanks largely to the contributions of two first-team stalwarts who are coming back from injury.

Having chosen to field, Nantwich bowled out Cheadle for 93 with Jimmy Warrington taking 5-16 from his nine overs.

In reply, on a pitch that clearly helped the bowlers, Nantwich lost wickets regularly and looked to be slipping to a surprise defeat when the ninth wicket fell with 10 runs still needed.

But Phil Stockton, who had come in at number three, used all his experience to guide the Dabbers home with an unbeaten 38.

And to complete a clean Saturday sweep, the 3rd team secured a much-needed win at JG Meakin CC.

After the visitors put the home side into bat, William Leyland took three wickets and Noah Birchall, Sam Williams and Joe Bolton chipped in with two apiece as Meakins were bowled out for 117.

An unbeaten 37 from Callum Pearson and a quickfire 35 from Arthur Bate were the main features of a reply that saw Nantwich reach their target for the loss of only three wickets inside 22 overs.

To complete a very successful weekend, the Sunday 3rds beat league leaders Didsbury, who chose to bat after winning the toss.

Denny Morgan (4-45) was the pick of the Nantwich bowlers as the visitors were bowled out for 184 and the Dabbers then completed a six-wicket victory, thanks mainly to an unbeaten 87 from Oliver Howell and 46 from Arthur Bate.

Chester Boughton Hall will provide the opposition for the seconds at Whitehouse Lane on Saturday and all spectators are welcome for a midday start.
