Steve Cook outside the new Applestump Records shop on Oat Market (1)

Nantwich independent store Applestump Records is expanding and moving to a larger outlet in the town, writes Jonathan White.

The shop, specialising in both new and second-hand vinyl, is moving to bigger premises on Oat Market from its current Barker Street location.

It will close this weekend on Barker Street, with owner Steve Cook hoping for a grand re-opening at the new store on September 12.

Applestump was founded during the pandemic lockdown by Steve Cook and his wife Danielle.

In 2022, Steve swapped his career as an internal auditor to follow his passion for music.

And what started as a small online store with just 80 records has blossomed into a thriving hub for music lovers, complete with live gigs and special events across the town.

Steve says the new shop will give his team space to expand their collection and host more events – from album signings and listening parties to their much-loved in-store performances.

Work is already underway to transform the Oat Market space into the store’s new home.

Steve said: “A huge thank you to the Riley family for giving us our first proper record shop and helping us realise the dream.

“On to the next phase! See you up Oat Market.”

The first big event at the new shop will be an album signing with pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor on Monday September 15, from 1–2pm.

Sophie will be celebrating the release of her new album Perimenopop, giving fans the chance to meet her in person and get their records signed.
