A number of people were injured in a two-car smash on the busy A51 in Wardle near Nantwich earlier today.

Fire crews had to cut one person from the wreckage on Nantwich Road at around 10am this morning.

Firefighters from Nantwich and Winsford were called to the scene.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Crews were called to a road traffic collision involving two cars in Wardle.

“One lane of the carriageway was closed by police while the incident was dealt with.

“Two walking wounded from one vehicle were handed over to the care of paramedics on scene.

“One person from another vehicle was medically trapped in their vehicle. Firefighters removed two doors and the boot of the vehicle to allow emergency personnel to gain full access to the casualty.

“The casualty was extricated and cared for by paramedics on scene.

“The incident was handed over to police.”

A Cheshire Police spokesperson added: “Officers found that a collision had occurred between a white Volkswagen Caddy and a blue Renault Capture.

“The occupants of the Renault, a 64-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman who are both from Staffordshire, were removed from the vehicle by fellow emergency service colleagues after becoming trapped.

“The woman, who was the passenger in the Renault, sustained minor injuries to her back and neck and has been taken to Leighton Hospital for further treatment. The man sustained no injuries.

“The driver of the Volkswagen, a 30-year-old man from Whitchurch, sustained no injuries.

“No arrests have been made.”
