
Nantwich Museum have launched six “Wonders of Colour” talks to support a new exhibition which will bring to life the history and science of colour, dyes and pigments.
The first takes place on Thursday 16 October, 7pm, called Seeing Colour: More Than Meets the Eye.
This talk explores how colour shapes the way we understand the world around us.
On Thursday 23 October, 7pm – Dyeing with Garden and Hedgerow Plants
Learn about the process of dyeing wool and other fibres with plants from gardens and hedgerows.
On Thursday 30 October, 7pm – I can see a Rainbow: a Whistlestop Tour through the Science of Colour
This is a look at the science of colour, starting with an exploration of where the colours in the rainbow come from.
On Thursday 6 November, 7pm – Dyeing to Know: How Salt Brings Colour to Life
Learn about the dyes and pigments from the earliest times and how salt and its by-products bring colour to life.
Thursday 13 November, 7pm – The Art of Colour
Learn how colours and pigments have been discovered and invented from prehistoric times via medieval alchemists to modern laboratories.
Thursday 20 November, 7pm – Indigo – Everyman’s Dye
This is the remarkable story of the unique and magical blue dye, indigo.
Each talk cost £6 (£5 Museum members), children free.
Financial support for the “Wonders of Colour” programme has been provided by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
