One of the busiest roads in and out of Nantwich is to close for four days, Cheshire East highways have said.

Newcastle Road, between the Elwood Way traffic lights and level crossing, will close from Tuesday September 16 between the hours of 9.30am and 2.30pm.

It is to allow for major carriageway improvement works and they say it should take about four days to complete.

Stapeley residents have received a letter warning of the closure and likely disruption.

It states: “A road closure will be necessary at all times during these works for the safety of our workforce and members of the public.

“We understand there is no right time to undertake this work. However, the scheme has been carefully planned to minimise any inconvenience.

“Please note that we occasionally change our works at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather conditions or logistics.”

Road closure signs will be seen from Churche’s Mansion roundabout and Elwood Way traffic lights.

“We will make every effort to maintain vehicle access to your property and business.

“However, due to the nature of the works some inconvenience may still occur and there could be times when point of entry will vary.”

Diversion signs will send traffic on the A51 bypass and down the A534 Crewe Road to Hospital Street.

Residents or business owners with queries are urged to contact highways on 0300 123 5020.

  1. I’m a Stapeley resident and haven’t received notification. Lets hope they do a better job than when they carried out the works at the Junction of London Road and Peter de Stapleigh Way. There the new paving has already broken and there is a trip hazard where there are diffent height between the paving and tarmac. Also they didn’t repair the potholes between the traffic lights Winterberry Way a few extra metres and they could have been repaired.
