A new Nantwich sports bar has been granted a premises licence allowing it to stay open until 2.30am at the weekends.
Cheshire East’s licensing sub-committee agreed GOAT, on High Street where Kennedy’s American Diner used to be, can also remain open until 12.30am on weekdays, from Sunday to Thursday.
The licence application had to be heard by councillors because a member of the public had objected.
The objector was unable to attend the licensing meeting and his request for it to be moved to a later date was refused.
His objections included claims the venue would contribute to late night noise nuisance already experienced in the town.
Licensing team leader Kim Evans told the hearing the use of the outdoor space at the premises was a contentious issue for the objector.
Applicant Sam Rock told the meeting the sports bar had been designed to be inclusive and welcoming for all.
He said there are no plans for live music or DJs and there would be no music on the outside terrace.
Mr Rock, who also runs The Leopard pub in Nantwich with Gary Evans, said he had managed licensed premises for more than 15 years.
He told the committee: “We have the necessary experience to deliver a well-run hospitality venue that is considerate of local residents and businesses alike.”
The Cheshire East Council licensing hearing lasted just 20 minutes.
