Plans to open Greggs and Burger King fast food outlets at a Nantwich petrol station have been approved, despite more than 20 objections being lodged.
Motor Fuel Group, who run the filling station at Morrisons in Nantwich, applied for planning permission from Cheshire East Council to build the food outlets.
It will see the demolition of the existing car wash and proposed extension to the petrol filling station building where the two new food outlets will be opened.
There are also plans to create an EV charging zone and erection of substation enclosure, LV panel, meter cabinet and jet wash bays, plant room, and associated works.
In their decision, Cheshire East Council have attached 17 conditions to the approval.
These cover issues including landscaping, use of materials, waste management, tests for land contamination and opening hours.
Opening hours for the new food takeaways will be 11am to 11pm Monday to Sunday for Burger King, and 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday for Greggs, and 7am to 4pm on Sundays or Public Holidays.
The hours of operation of the jet wash bays will be limited to 7am to 10pm Monday to Sunday.
The plans received 20 letters of objection from residents living nearby the site, and one letter from Sustainable Nantwich.
Objections listed a range of reasons including increased traffic congestion, rise in noise and air pollution, litter and “throwaway” culture, anti-social behaviour, “cheapens the town”, damages character of Nantwich, cooking odours, encouraging unhealthy eating among others.
But in their decision, Cheshire East planners said: “The proposed development relates to a main town centre use which would be sited within Nantwich Town Centre. It is considered to be acceptable in principle.
“The design is considered to be appropriate and complies with the relevant Development Plan policies and there would be a neutral impact upon the setting of the Listed Buildings and Conservation Area.
“The development would not have a detrimental impact upon residential amenity (this includes noise, odour air quality and contaminated land).
“The proposal is considered to be acceptable in terms of its highways implications. The proposed development complies with the Development Plan as a whole.”
Motor Fuel Group say the two new outlets will help create up to 30 full and part time jobs.

DO we really need antoher fast food establishment in our town. DO we.

In response to ‘JOE’ – why not try walking rather than taking up spaces meant for customers of Morrisons!!
my mate sue just told me about this and cant belive me eyes…
What on eartgh is wrong with peeple thinking this a good idea!!
Just seen this on FB! this town is going to the dogs! will be like Crewe soon enough…
RIP Nantwich, it’s been a good run
Greedy people ruinging our lovely home!!
We dont need more burger shops!! Arent we all fat enough already!!
Burgah
Burger
I read a while ago there was a plan to build fast food outlets at the Morrisons fuel station. I was surprised to further read that permission had been granted for a Burger King. It’s not something I ever thought I’d see in Nantwich during my lifetime. As a good citizen of Nantwich, I did all I could, in starting a petition.
I’m really pleased to see it paid off and I got the support of the town. Thank you.
Get that griddle sizzlin’. Let’s get flippin’ some prime meat. It’s Whopper time.
Wrong place entirely. ( if it has to come ) The perimeter of the Town as a traditional Market Town is being lost at every point. So the impression of Nantwich is Burger King Greg’s (Goat the other view) that although nothing wrong with them but the placing is wrong.
The Traffic this will generate is huge going through Hospital St. Another jam log.
Considering we are also supposed to be net zero where is the thought for emissions being breathed in by local housing ?
Needs re thinking. Re placing elsewhere.
Hello Ian
You speak with such enthusiasm for the people of Nantwich.
Now that you have joined Reform UK, have you considered standing as a councillor, so that you can make a read difference?
B
T20 objections.. that’s nothing, A council would expect 20 objections when a garden fence is put up… To all those complaining on here(we have 16 so far), did you make a formal representation on the planning and complain/object ?
Its amazing how many will spend so much time on social media etc complaining but nothing formal.
Without it any council has their hands tied, if hundreds had complained they would have rejected it.
One small step for man
One giant leap for obesity
Litter, obesity, terrible food, Crewe comes to Nantwich. Someone from our corrupt council has done well out of this
Nantwich going down hill will be the same as Crewe in a few years time !
Eating & drinking playing places on every street
must be some idle people about who can’t be bothered to cook proper food at home & with too much money , We keep hearing that people can’t manage & are hard up ! I don’t think so
RIP Nantwich!
Morons blaming CEC because people litter! CEC are useless, but to say it’s their fault people of their own free will decide not to put rubbish in a bin and dump it on the road is laughable.
And as for obesity and junk food nobody wants to shut pizza parlour or dominos down. All the pubs serving high calorie drinks and food do they need to be shut down too?!
As I have reiterated in the past. The Law of the Large Brown Envolope Rules.
Unfortunately litter is not the problem of Greggs or Burger King. It is the problem of modern society and the youngsters of today who have no respect for the town and think it is fine to throw their litter wherever they like.
Some of the parents who are moaning about this should perhaps spend more time instilling some sense of respect and responsibility in their kids.
Yet again very poor analysis skills and judgement from Cheshire East Council. They are obviously intent on making Nantwich a possible film set for’ Shameless. ‘
Bill and Ade have identified above in his comments, environmental issues, smell, litter. There are additional issues of potential anti social behaviour.
Ask your self the question does need these two additional retail outlets. Fast food, junk food just increases health issues. There is a direct link to obesity . That has been proven.
Who will pay for the additional street cleaning from discarded packaging.
You have to ask’ What do Cheshire East Council Think With. ?’
What consultation have taken place with residents impacted by this decision. This incudes increased traffic and demands on parking in the town.
It is no wonder why citizens despair at Cheshire East Council .
Where am i going to park for free for 90mins when i nip into town? The plans show at least 30 morrisons parking spaces to disappear
Where do the morons who approved the plan live?
Answer please.
CEC don’t care about the people, they are only interested in money. They have already destroyed this town. Nantwich is dying and cec are profiteering from it’s death as are the property developers. Cheshire east need disbanding before they do any more harm, the river is dead, so is the town and all the green land is slowly disappearing, being eaten up by money hungry greedy pigs
At last the king shall come to Nantwich! Great news, hopefully maccies and KFC will follow!
The End is in site For Nantwich with this decision I’m afraid.
Fast food is a part of our society now but it’s location is totally wrong in this instance.
Litter,Smell,Noise But good old chesire east just like a kipper Spineless when it comes to protecting our lovely town.
Another reason not to shop in Nantwich
Its the smell which worries me and I feel for those living behind it. The Crewe BK is brand new and you can smell it from about 50 metres away…. I agree things need to change/improve and businesses grow. Its hidden away there so its ok but its going to stink !
well I hope they are going to be responsible for litter picking it is hardly fair to leave all the litter picking to volunteers, they already keep the streets tidy at no cost to business or residents!!
