Crewe Vagrants CC second team clinched promotion in their penultimate match with a victory over local rivals Sandbach at home.
After winning the toss, Crewe decided to insert Sandbach and the visitors lost wickets regularly and finished 62 all out.
Crewe’s bowling attack was led by leg-spinner Harry Wynn-Hughes who topped the stats with a fine 3 for 9.
He was well supported by Andy Whittingham’s 2 for 9, with one each for Haveesh Alluri, Frazier Hoye, and Mike Whittingham.
Ravi Varma also performed well with his 1 for 0, three catches and a run out.
Despite losing Matt Whittingham (10) early, Richard Jarvis’ experienced 20 Not Out coupled with an aggressive 26 not out from keeper Mark Hurst, reached the target in 11 overs.
Congratulations to captain Max Gay and the team for gaining another promotion.
Crewe Vagrants 1sts had already clinched promotion as they took the field at Little Stoke in a rain-reduced 28 overs match.
Wickets fell regularly to an array of bowlers with Sam Youds and Rory Kalnins taking two each and one each for Faisir Mahmoud, Tate Rutter, Piers Stockton and Cal Meakin.
Only late order batter T Spruce (20) showed any true Little Stoke resistance to take his team’s score to 111 for 9 at the close.
In reply, a good start from opener Rory Kalnins (31), followed by a steady 20 from Faisel and 14 from Sam Youds put Crewe in charge.
But then the collapse as despite a fighting performance of 25 not out from Nathan Twidell, Crewe’s last four tail-enders all went for ducks.
The scores were tied at 111 but Little Stoke were awarded the game for losing one less wicket.
In their final games of the season this weekend, the 1sts are at home to Moddershall and Oulton CC, and the 2nds away to Checkley.
