Nantwich Market staff have received national acclaim at an annual conference which celebrates markets across the UK.
The market team were recognised at the National Association of British Markets (NABMA) Annual Conference.
Market assistant Jordan Marsh has successfully completed his Level 4 Diploma in Market Management, becoming the third member of the Nantwich Markets team to achieve the prestigious qualification.
He follows in the footsteps of market manager Mike Elsby and assistant civic hall manager Mohammed Rouf, who were awarded the same qualification last year.
In addition, Mike has been honoured with two accolades that underline his long-standing dedication and impact on markets locally and nationally.
Mike was awarded Honorary Life Membership of NABMA, a distinction granted to only a select few across the country.
It was made in recognition of his 28 years of continuous service to the management and development of Nantwich Markets.
And he was also voted Small Market Manager of the Year, a national award celebrating commitment, adaptability, and decades of leadership.
David Preston, CEO of NABMA, praised Mike’s dedication, adding: “With 28 years of continuous service, Mike is described as the beating heart of his local market.
“Through decades of change, he has shown professionalism, empathy, and extraordinary dedication, keeping markets operating as lifelines during the toughest times and ensuring they remain trusted anchors for the community.”
This latest recognition follows on from Nantwich Market earning a Highly Commended Award at the Great British Market Awards 2025.
Cllr Mary Slinn, Mayor of Nantwich, said: “We are delighted that our market team has been recognised on the national stage.
“Nantwich Market is a true cornerstone of our town, bringing people together and supporting our community spirit.
“These awards demonstrate the hard work and commitment of those who make it such a success.”
A spokesperson for Nantwich Town Council added: “We extend our congratulations to Mike, Jordan, Mohammed, and the whole market team on their remarkable achievements, which ensure the future of Nantwich markets remains strong and vibrant.”
Nantwich Market remains a busy, full, and welcoming traditional market, but is also embracing change and innovation to move with the times.
A variety of events have taken place throughout the year, including family entertainment, live music, and late-night shopping events.
And there will be Pumpkin Patch during October half term.

Im not sure where this came from:
“Nantwich Market … is also embracing change and innovation to move with the times.”
Its only open for a few hours each week plus Saturday – the rest of the time is remains closed. Any other business would see the opportunity to expand and change to free these closed spaces. There are only a handful of food producers inside and when they go, who takes their place?
The structure of the market needs a complete overhaul – remove the tat and get the food vendors from outside to inside and expand the opening hours. Many other markets have successfully adapted, Nantwich hasnt. I dont see much evidence of innovation; its stuck in the past.
