Adam Shilton - Musical Director of Crewe Concert Band - conducts (2)

Wistaston Memorial Hall came alive with community spirit when residents gathered for coffee, cake and live music in support of Macmillan Cancer Support, writes Jonathan White.

The event drew a great turnout, with locals enjoying a relaxed and friendly atmosphere while raising vital funds for a cause close to so many hearts.

Adding to the mood were Crewe Concert Band, who delighted the audience with songs featuring classics from Elton John, Stevie Wonder and The Beatles, along with stage and screen favourites from The Lion King, Chicago, Wallace & Gromit and Hawaii Five-O.

The band was conducted by Musical Director Adam Shilton, whose journey into music began at the age of four.

After starting out in local concert and brass bands, Adam took a break during a military career that included deployment in the Middle East.

Those experiences later inspired him to retrain as a music teacher, and in 2018 a visit to Crewe Concert Band rekindled his childhood love of band music.

Following a successful audition, he became their Musical Director in 2018, using his passion and expertise to help the band grow and thrive.

The morning raised £614.41 for Macmillan.

A Crewe Concert Band representative said: “A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported our Coffee Morning at Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre – together we raised an amazing £614.41 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“Special thanks to our band members and their families for baking cakes, donating raffle prizes, serving drinks and cakes, and selling raffle tickets.

“We couldn’t have done it without you. And of course, thank you to our wonderful players for putting on a fantastic concert. What a fabulous morning!”
