Cheerbrook win Best Food Producer at Nantwich Food Awards

St Martha and Toast Haus were the big winners at the Nantwich Food Awards at the Civic Hall tonight (October 10th).

Both popular eateries scooped two awards each at a packed ceremony as the annual awards again honoured our town’s great food outlets in style.

Greek restaurant St Martha, on Hospital Street, picked up the first award of the night – “Taste of Nantwich” – sponsored by Nantwich News.

Shortlisted entries and winners are determined by public vote, and St Martha was up against stiff competition with Chatwins and Snugburys also shortlisted.

Another great local company Cheerbrook Farm Shop on Newcastle Road scooped the second honour of the evening, the “Best Food Producer/Retailer” award (pictured above)

Chatwins and Snugburys were again pipped to the post in this category.

Next up was the “Best Takeaway” and this was won by Coral Reef on Pillory Street, ahead of Welsh Row Fryer and Benny’s Fish and Chips in Wistaston.

Toast Haus then won their first award of the night when they were crowned “Best Newcomer” ahead of Edward’s Deli and Jordy’s Pizzeria.

The winner of the next category “Bar Stars” was scooped by Six on Hospital Street, ahead of fellow shortlisted venues The Leopard and Edward’s Deli.

One of the most eagerly contested categories was “Best Cafe/Coffee Shop” with so many amazing coffee shops in and around Nantwich.

And this year newcomers Toast Haus were voted as winners, scooping their second honour, ahead of Berries in Wrenbury and Minshulls Nursery.

The Leopard in Nantwich won “Best Pub with Food”, an accolade they have scooped numerous times. This year they beat The Bhurtpore Inn in Aston and Royal Oak in Worleston to the honour.

And finally, St Martha added their second honour of the night by winning “Best Restaurant” ahead of Jordy’s Pizzeria and Rookery Hall Hotel.

Guests at the awards were treated to some tasty hot buffet cuisine courtesy of students and staff from Cheshire College.

The awards were attended by the shortlisted venues, Nantwich Food Festival volunteers and committee members, award sponsors, and dignitaries including Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Mary Slinn, High Sheriff of Cheshire Joelle Warren, Crewe and Nantwich MP Connor Naismith, Cheshire Life editor Joanne Goodwin, and various town councillors.

Food Festival chairman Christine Farrall said: “There are so many great eateries in Nantwich and the surrounding area to enjoy.

“All the different eateries and shops we have help boost the town’s income through tourists, and we thank everyone for their support.

“The Food Festival is one of the largest free food festivals in the UK, and we would not put this on without the help of everyone.”

The food awards are open to all businesses within a 10-mile radius of Nantwich town centre, and shortlisted eateries can only be entered into two categories.

  1. Congratulations to the winners but come on…The Leopard?? Best pub with food within a 10 mile radius? Laughable.
