A resident of Corbrook Park Nursing Home in Audlem has celebrated her 100th birthday – with a special card from King Charles and Queen Camilla!
Lilian Thompson marked her century surrounded by loving family, friends, and the home’s caring team.
Born in Chorley in Lancashire in 1925, Lilian was just 14 years old when World War II broke out.
In recent years, she recalled clearly the air raid sirens and the challenges of rationing during those difficult years.
Lilian met and married her husband Roy Thompson and the couple enjoyed 50 happy years together.
They had a son, Mark, who enjoys visiting his mother at Corbrook Park.
Throughout her life, Lilian had a fascinating and varied career.
She worked as a chauffeur for the government, co-ran a successful oil business with Roy, and spent a decade as a postmistress in Wilmslow.
Lilian has been a resident at Corbrook Park for six years, where she enjoys spending time in the home’s gardens and participating in the busy activities programme.
Her son Mark said: “Mum’s secret for living to 100 is plain old good living.
“She’s always believed in enjoying life and making the most of every day.
“She’s never been one to sit still for long – whether it was running the business with Dad, helping others, or keeping up with family and friends.
“She loves good food and good company and has always had a positive outlook on life. I think it’s this positivity that has helped her reach this milestone.”
Anita Horton, general manager at Corbrook Park Nursing Home, said: “We were delighted to celebrate Lilian’s 100th birthday with her here at Corbrook Park.
“It is an incredible milestone and testament to a life well lived.”
Corbrook Park provides dementia, nursing, respite, disability, day and palliative care for up to 80 residents.
