Youngsters from Nantwich, Acton, Willaston, Sandbach, Madeley and more are coming together to share festive joy and music.
They will be performing a concert at 7pm this Saturday 6th December at St Mary’s Church in Nantwich which will feature pianists, bellringers and singers aged 5-15.
Walking to the church, you’ll hear the bells rung by Cheshire & North Staffs Young Ringers, a team of teenage bellringers and children who represented the region at a national competition in Birmingham for the first time ever in July.
The young ringers (under-18 and under-30) meet every month across North Staffordshire and Cheshire for bellringing practices, and ring in regional and national striking competitions.
The concert has been organised by local bellringer and music teacher Sambambo, who is also a professional saxophonist.
She said: “Practising your instrument at home is one thing, but performing in front of an audience is quite another, and something which requires practice too.
“While I perform multiple times a week, most of my students rarely get the opportunity to play or sing in front of anyone but me.
“So this will be a fantastic opportunity for them to perform in a more formal setting, with an encouraging local audience.
“For many of the children, it’ll be their first ever concert and they are very excited.”
Sambambo teaches music and bellringing in local schools a couple of days a week, and spends weekends travelling around the UK playing the saxophone.
She has performed at festivals and venues with her band including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, the Regent Theatre, Green Man Festival, Greenbelt Festival, and recently released a collection of songs called ‘Elegies’ on the theme of grief.
Donations can be made in advance at 6th-dec.eventbrite.com or on the door. All profits from the concert will go to Nantwich foodbank.
Sambambo added: “40% of the people supported by Nantwich Foodbank last year were children, so we wanted to support them during our children’s Christmas concert.”
