
A Nantwich care home resident is set to reach a remarkable milestone and celebrate her 102nd birthday!
Joan Southern is resident of Brookfield House, off Shrewbridge Road in Nantwich.
She will be celebrating her birthday surrounded by her family and care home staff having been born just five years after the end of the First World War.
Joan was born in St Helens in 1923 and was the youngest of four siblings.
She Joan was just 16 when the Second World War broke out and worked in a menswear factory until she was 19.

Joan joined the Women’s Land Army and went to work on a farm in Bristol.
A year after the end of the war, Joan met Harold Southern just a week after he had returned from five years away at war.
They married in 1948 and enjoyed 57 happy years together.
They had a daughter Janet. She said: “Mum’s secret to living to 102 is leading a happy and healthy life.
“She enjoys good company and joining in with all the activities at Brookfield House.”
