Nantwich Town’s inconsistent season continued with a heavy 4-1 defeat away at Cheshire neighbours Witton Albion on Boxing Day.
Despite Alex Panter levelling for the Dabbers at half-time, the visitors let three goals in after the break to leave them down in 14th in Northern Premier League West.
Witton took the lead as early as the eighth minute via a Tom Hoyle strike, following an early period of pressure.
The hosts continued to create chances in front of 700 supporters, but it was Nantwich who managed to level in the 43rd minute.
The ball was crossed into the box and following a goal-mouth scramble, Panter reacted quickest to stab the ball home.
Any hope the visitors could build momentum from that after the break were quashed just four minutes in.
Alfie Bairstow was free to fire home and restore Witton’s lead.
The hosts continued to dominate and grabbed a third to all but seal the points just seven minutes later.
This time, it was Joe Edwards who found space to fire home.
Dabbers boss Jon Moran tried to change things with a triple substitution as Perry Bricumshaw, Joe Collins and Byron Moore were introduced on the hour.
But five minutes later, Witton confirmed their win when they were awarded a penalty.
Freddie Garbutt gave Ben Garratt no chance and victory was sealed for the hosts.
Dabbers manager Moran (pictured) said after: “It took us a bit of time to get out of the blocks but then I thought we were really good.
“But we came out second half and as good as we were in first half, we were just as bad.
“It seems history is repeating itself, when we concede one goal we look likely to concede another one.
“I didn’t think it was a 4-1 game, and didn’t think it was a penalty, but they scored a couple of good goals.”
