Fire crews from across Cheshire battled a large farm barn blaze near Nantwich for more than 12 hours.

The fire broke out at a premises on Cholmondeley Road shortly after 12.30am earlier today (January 4th).

Fire crews from Nantwich, Tarporley, Malpas, Audlem, Chester, Alsager, Winsford, Middlewich and Congleton, along with support from the Welfare Support Unit from Penketh were called to the scene.

The barn fire involved hay and straw, with the fire having breached the roof on arrival.

Firefighters removed cattle from nearby barns as a precaution.

Working throughout the night, five hose reel jets were used to get the fire under control, and thermal imaging cameras used to monitor hotspots throughout the premises.

Crews have continued to turn over and dampen down the fire and surrounding area, with water being shuttled to the scene throughout the morning.

By 8.45am just two crews remained on site and by 2.30pm, firefighters had removed hay from the barn and continued to dampen down using a hose reel jet.

The cause is being investigated. It’s thought no one was injured in the incident.
