A Nantwich police boss has praised night-time venues after a New Year’s Eve without a single incident in licensed premises.
Sgt Matt Stonier said it was probably the first time he could remember that this had happened in the town.
And he hailed the town’s Pubwatch Scheme for ensuring the whole festive season passed off peacefully.
Sgt Stonier told Nantwich Town Council: “There was not a single licensed premises incident on New Year’s Eve, for the first time in my memory.
“There are not many towns around the UK that can say that, and this is very much down to the premises themselves.
“We try and be as proactive as possible, but it’s the venues that are responsible. The professionalism they have shown I have really been impressed with.”
Sgt Stonier did highlight one arrest had been made after a drink spiking incident in a Nantwich venue.
“This male has been banned from the town centre, and he has been arrested and released currently on police bail,” he added.
He said in total there had been 182 incidents in the past month, which was down by 12% on the same period last year.
Of those incidents, they included 17% were for violence of harassment, 12% were reports of concerns for safety, and 8% were for domestic related violence.
In another incident, a man was arrested for drug driving on First Wood Street in the town.
