Firefighters had to cut the roof off a vehicle to free a trapped driver injured in a three-car smash in Nantwich.

The accident closed the A51 Nantwich Bypass at Willaston shortly before 7.30pm tonight (January 21).

Fire crews from Nantwich and Crewe were called out to the collision in which one person was left trapped in their vehicle.

A full road closure was put in place, causing long queues.

A Cheshire Fire Service spokesperson said: “A full roof removal has taken place to free the casualty who is now in the care of paramedics. Firefighters have made the vehicles safe.”

Cheshire Police said: “Shortly before 6pm on Wednesday 21 January, police were called to a collision on the A51, Nantwich Bypass.

“Officers attended and found there had been a collision involving three cars, a red Mercedes, a grey Audi and a grey Skoda.

“The driver of the Skoda was medically wrapped in the vehicle and released by firefighters before being passed to the care of paramedics.

“None of the occupants are reported to have sustained any life changing injuries.

“The scene was cleared by 8.40pm.”
