St Marys Church Acton

Music lovers and comedy fans are invited to an evening of witty storytelling at a “Let’s Do It!” classic comic song night comes to St Mary’s Church, Acton.

The charity fundraising event will take place on Saturday March 21st at 7pm at the Grade I listed church on Monks Lane with all proceeds supporting St Luke’s Hospice.

It will feature performer Paul Thompson, who will bring to life the songs and characters of much-loved comic songwriters including Victoria Wood, Tom Lehrer, Flanders and Swann, and Jake Thackray.

In one tribute, Paul will perform using the late Jake Thackray’s own guitar.

Thackray, who died in 2002, was renowned for his witty, narrative songs, rich baritone voice and sharp observations of everyday English life.

A spokesperson for St Mary’s Acton said: “This promises to be a delightful and uplifting evening, full of humour, nostalgia and brilliant musicianship.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting this event in support of St Luke’s Hospice and would encourage people to book early and join us for a truly special night.”

•Friday 6th February – 7pm – Music lovers are invited to enjoy an intimate evening of live music from acclaimed local vocalist Megan Lee. Renowned for her stunning voice and genre-blending style, Megan will be joined by her musicians for what promises to be a memorable night. Tickets cost £10 and are available from Tea at the Tower at St Mary’s Acton on Sunday afternoons, or by calling 07731 800663.

•Tea at the Tower community café – every Sunday throughout the year, 2.30–4.30pm, offering hot drinks, homemade cakes and a warm welcome. Donations gratefully received.

•Tea at the Tower guided walks – gentle monthly walks starting at 1pm (meet 12.45pm) from the church, returning in time for café refreshments. Future dates include Sunday 1st March and Sunday 12th April.
