M&S Nantwich

M&S have confirmed they are to close their coffee shop in the Nantwich store on Beam Street.

The company said the decision was made to free up more space to offer a wider range of food.

The coffee shop is set to close at the end of February. It’s not clear if coffee shop employees are being offered new positions or being made redundant.

An M&S spokesperson told Nantwich News: “We know many of our customers want to be able to shop a wider range of M&S Food.

“That’s why after reviewing our Nantwich store, we are re-purposing the café space next month to offer more products, including more produce from our Select Farm partners.

“We understand this will be disappointing news for some of our customers however our team will continue working hard to serve them in-store.”

M&S was built and opened in Nantwich back in April 2013, and its coffee shop has been a popular haunt for many residents being close to the library, Civic Centre and medical centre.

It comes as the town is about to welcome a new Starbucks coffee shop on High Street, and Costa Coffee are about to open a new cafe in Sainsbury’s supermarket off Middlewich Road.

M&S are using the closure of tge cafe as an excuse to close tge toilets – now permanently closed. I am urrging everyone to complain!!!

  2. NJL utter rubbish, clearly no idea how retail works. the store is badly designed, it is looking dated rather like a cosy corner shop, nothing seems to stand out or tempt me into anything different, I feel there needs to be a far better selection, and extra space will give just that. The cafe was no great shakes, basic drinks and sandwiches say 10 tables an hour selling £20 of food is only £200 an hour x say 10am till 3pm so daily takings around £1,000 less staff costs and power, etc The staff will be still working on the store floor, so no loss, Then dynamic shelving and seasonal goods vibe I doubt in half an hour I would be spending less than £60 a visit if this was the new look, and in 20 years I have only sat in that cafe probably twice!!

  3. Jeffing hell, can’t afford to shop in M&S. Coffee shop was a good hub, very clean – certainly won’t have any reason to go to the part of the town centre now. M&S food hall will be next to close. Only irk for myself, you were asked if you wanted to donate to a charity when buying a coffee – nope – coffee costs enough and I do my bit elsewhere.

  4. This will make way for the occasional shoppers…the shoppers who want one specific item, or a seasonal one off. It will however, alienate the big food shoppers…those basket and trolley filling shoppers, will go somewhere that they can sit and have a coffee just before starting or just after their shopping. Seen it happen far too often…the big-wigs wave their infamous wands from the dizzying heights of their ivory tower and assume they are saving money. In truth they are losing traction and free falling into bankruptcy with decisions best left on a drawing board.

  5. Running an energy hungry operation like a cafe these days is hugely expensive. I read of a pub closing the other day as their utility bill had reached £8000 per month. You can be busy and make loss with that just representing one overhead.

  6. This is a sad news, I hope the staff that work in the caffè will keep the job in the shop.
Sometimes people make the difference and a smile lady that served my daughter since she was 2 hope will remain.

  7. great, such a waste of space someone hugging a coffee for ages, we need far better choices in the food department, scant attention given to healthy diets, gluten intolerances, allergies, as the worse same old same old choices for years on the shelves nothing changes nothing special and seasonal, looks like they have realised they are losing ground to Sainsburys
