Shavington Village Festival Committee celebrates at NODA awards (1)

Shavington Village Festival Committee are celebrating a successful awards night after taking home two honours at the NODA District 8 Awards.

The awards recognised SVFC’s 2026 pantomime “Rapunzel” by Tom Whalley, which received an impressive 10 nominations on the night.

The group won Best Staging of a Pantomime, as well as Best Villain awarded to Megan Goode for her portrayal of the wicked Mother Gothel.

The production told the classic fairytale story of Rapunzel, a princess with magical golden hair kidnapped by the jealous Mother Gothel and imprisoned in a tower.

Packed with comedy, colourful characters and pantomime flair, the show featured Dame Fanny Follicle, her son Pascal and Prince Ryder as they attempted to help Rapunzel escape in what was described as a truly “hair-larious” adventure.

Director James Sambrook said: “We were absolutely thrilled to receive ten nominations and to come away with two awards was the perfect end to a fantastic evening.

“Winning Best Staging is a real testament to the hard work and dedication of so many talented individuals across all departments, who worked tirelessly to create a polished and memorable experience for our audiences.

“The tower, designed and constructed by Bob Snell with assistance from David Elliot, and beautifully finished with art design by Ruth Vidler, was an incredible centrepiece for our auditorium and truly the cherry on the cake.”

The Best Villain award went to Megan Goode, a familiar face to Shavington audiences who has played many principal roles in the village’s pantomimes over the years.

Sambrook added: “Huge congratulations to Megan, who once again demonstrated her exceptional talent on stage.”

Founded in 1979 following the success of the Shavington Village Festival, SVFC’s pantomimes have become an annual tradition.

Each year, more than 150 adults and children are involved both on stage and behind the scenes, entertaining audiences of around 1,500 at Shavington Leisure Centre.

The group are now preparing to welcome audiences to this year’s pantomime, Aladdin by Barry Crossley.

It runs from Tuesday 17th to Saturday 21st February at Shavington Leisure Centre, with evening performances at 7.15pm.

Tickets are £10 and are available online at https://svfc.info/
