flooded road near Marbury

Highways bosses say a flooding problem on rural lanes near Wrenbury has been resolved following works in February.

Engineers were sent in to investigate the drainage on Hollyhurst Road, Wrenbury, between the junctions of Hollyhurst Road and Wrenbury Road.

They say the works were successful, and the main causes of flooding identified as a poorly installed junction from a land drain, and a collapsed section of pipe.

A highways spokesperson said: “Both faults were fully repaired at the end of February, and flooding cleared overnight as a result.

“We have now completed the reinstatement, emptied and jetted the gullies, cleared and swept the road.

“Engineers also noted recent work undertaken by a local farmer to clear the ditch line, which has significantly improved water flow. We would like to thank those involved for their support.”

It comes after residents and businesses held an emergency community meeting at The Swan in Marbury last month, voicing fears that their village could be cut off by the flooding.

Flooding had been a recurring problem at the junction of Hollyhurst Road and Wrenbury Road, usually caused bu periods of heavy rain which failed to drain away.

Initial works in December 2024 removed heavy silt and debris, which improved conditions temporarily, but flooding returned in December 2025.

Now Highways say they will carry out a CCTV survey between April and June to check the latest repairs have worked.

They added: “We will also jet this location annually and clean the gullies on a bi‑annual rotation.”

Any residents can report instances of flooding on the highway using Cheshire East’s TraCE reporting system.
