Nantwich Players Youth Theatre brings myth, legend and a touch of gothic horror to the town this week with their production of Room 13.
Adapted by Joe Standerline from the novel by Robert Swindells, we meet a group of school children on a trip to the historical town of Whitby.
The group are staying in an old hotel on the West Cliff, and every night Ellie-May, played by Bonnie Lawler is drawn mysteriously to Room 13, which doesn’t seem to exist during the day.
A group of friends are determined to unravel the mystery of the room and discover what or who, lies within.
Directed by Ben Willis the cast did a brilliant job, it must have been so much fun rehearsing for this production, there is so much talent in this group.
The leads gave strong performances throughout. Imogen Lee was great as Felicity as was Lottie Nicholls who played Lisa.
I also enjoyed the performances from Xanthe Williams who played Old Sally and Kallum Hodgeson as Waseem.
The set, which looked bleak to start with, was easily adapted to incorporate the numerous locations needed, and the use of black and white projected images and recorded audio added tension to the atmosphere.
I really enjoyed watching this play. I thought the scene in the Dracula Experience was brilliant.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit Whitby a number of times, and this production captures the atmosphere, creativity and history the town has perfectly.
Well done to all involved in this production.
