repaired pathway on Beam Street

A crumbling and “unsafe” pathway in Nantwich has been repaired after Luncheon Club members complained to councillors.

The path on Beam Street in Nantwich is the main route for elderly members of the club to get to the club at Nantwich Civic Hall.

The route to the club had become difficult and unsafe, particularly for those using mobility scooters, due to large potholes and damaged surfaces.

Residents raised concerns and Nantwich Town Councillor Anna Burton, a regular visitor to the club, agreed to fund the work from her ward budget in consultation with fellow ward councillor Arthur Moran.

The pavement has now been replaced by Cheshire East Highways.

The safer, smoother route was described as a “wonderful Easter surprise” by Luncheon Club members this week.

Cllr Burton, who also sits on the Cheshire East Council Highways and Transport Committee, said: “I am delighted to see the pavement has now been replaced.

“This improvement makes the route much more accessible and is in line with our statutory responsibilities to ensure safe and accessible highways for everyone.

“This work first came to my attention thanks to the lobbying from this amazing group of women at the Luncheon Club. We have them to thank for this.”

  1. DOG LANE, very busy pedestrian route into Nantwich, used by elderly with mobility scooters, walking aids etc, and access to Nursery, surface very uneven and broken, more patches and potholes than actual road, road markings all broken, curb stones broken, never been fully resurfaced in 30 years.

  2. I questioned many a time about the state of the footpath in Stamp Avenue in Crewe,
Trees planted in the middle of the path years ago have grown so big the footpath is so unsafe and unpassable.
Parents with pushchairs and disabled people on mobility scooter have no option but to get past on the roadside.
Once a Cheshire east worker came to have a look,
I showed him the situation and his reply,
WE DON’T CUT TREES DOWN JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN’T GET PAST,
I Said about school children mother’s with prams and disability people,he wasn’t interested.
What gets me in they wasted money putting double yellow lines down because it’s at a junction to prevent parking and totally ignore the safety of the pedestrian having to step out Infront of traffic.

To those who think Nantwich is a wonderful town might like to try walking around with a disability, the roads are flatter than the pavements approaching the town

  4. Agitated Resident says:

    Classic Cheshire East Highways,

Dig up every pavement possible before the tax year ends instead of fixing the appalling state of potholes here there and everywhere.

Being stuck behind temporary lights every 5 mins for pavement works truly is a “wonderful Easter surprise”
