Guests and dignitaries were invited to the official opening of Nantwich Museum’s first Open Art Exhibition – and Nantwich News popped along to take a look.
The exhibition, in the Millennium Gallery, features 70 pieces of art selected from more than 200 entries.
The pieces vary hugely, from 2D works, paintings, drawings, lino printings, mono printings, abstract works, mixed media, collages, textiles and 3D works, black and white photography and sculptures.
It makes for a fascinating exhibition which features many local professional and hobbyist artists, as well as those from further afield.
They include former Nantwich primary school headteacher Mary Hennessy Jones, who was also in attendance at the official opening last night (April 10th).

Current Nantwich Mayor Cllr Mary Slinn also attended along with scores of other invited guests.
The theme of the exhibition is “Heritage” and around 70 pieces of artwork selected from more than 200 entries by a panel of judges will be displayed.
The exhibition is due to run until Saturday June 20th. With free admission to the museum on Pillory Street, it is well worth a visit.
One of the organisers David Kereszteny-Lewis told visitors: “The standard of entries was very high and selected artwork was chosen on its individual merits, how it might fit in the context of all other selected pieces and the museum itself.
“We must thank all those who have contributed, the judges for making their selections, and the museum hanging volunteers for displaying the exhibition so expertly in the gallery.

“It’s the first time the museum has held an Open Art exhibition and we hope to do many more in the future.”
Visitors last night and on future days can submit their votes for their favourite piece, and winners will receive a cash prize and a chance to exhibit work in the Community Gallery at a later date.
Some of the artwork is also available for sale.
Entry is free to the museum and exhibition. The museum in Pillory Street is open from 10am – 4pm (Tuesday – Saturday).
