A wave of community support has helped a Wistaston tennis club serve up an incredible fundraising victory – raising more than £42,000 to secure its future.

Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club is celebrating after smashing its original £15,000 Crowdfunder target to help resurface its courts.

It means it has successfully unlocked vital match funding from Sport England.

Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club has now secured the full funds needed to resurface its two courts at its Church Lane site.

The club, founded in 1977 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, has grown into a thriving community hub with around 100 members playing regularly on its two floodlit courts behind Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre.

Club officials say resurfacing work will ensure a modern and safe playing surface for members and wider community.

The funds raised will transform the club’s facilities, providing high-quality playing surface while also enabling wider improvements.

These include replacing damaged fencing and enhancing the overall site – ensuring the club can continue to expand opportunities for players of all ages and abilities without dipping into its limited reserves.

The successful fundraising campaign was supported by several local businesses, including Poole Alcock Solicitors, Tailored Kitchens, Proff Heating, Portcullis Electrical, Ensure Safety and Training, Crave Coffee, and Grand Construction.

A fun-filled Community Tennis Day in March also played its part, with families enjoying games, a One Point Slam challenge, raffle prizes and a popular cake sale – all helping push the total over the line.

Reaching £42,000 would allow the entire courts improvement project to be completed without dipping into the club’s limited reserves.

A tennis club spokesperson said: “Reaching £42,000 is simply incredible, and it’s all thanks to the generosity, energy and belief of our community.

“From every donation to every raffle ticket bought, people have truly come together to make this happen.

“This project is about so much more than resurfacing courts – it’s about protecting a valued community space and creating new opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy tennis for years to come.

“We’re genuinely overwhelmed by the support and can’t wait to welcome everyone back onto the new courts.”

The club plans to introduce a new pay-and-play scheme, making it even easier for non-members and local residents to pick up a racket and get involved.
