A village tennis club near Nantwich has launched a fundraiser for two new courts in a bid to boost its membership.
Members of Wrenbury Tennis Club have enjoyed a “fairytale” season punching above its weight in the South & Mid Cheshire Medley League.
With just 40 members, the club has achieved back-to-back success in Division 3, taking on larger clubs lie Cuddington, Tarporley, and Alsager, and securing promotion to Division 2.
And in the Medley Cup, a handicap competition in which higher division teams start with a score of -15 points, they won 8-0 in semi-final against Congleton B and have booked their place in the Final.
Now they are appealing for help to keep the club active and are looking to raise £40,000.
Club spokesperson Hellen Scheper said: “We are incredibly proud of what our small community has achieved.
“Beyond the results, it’s been a season defined by brilliant team spirit and a lot of heart.
“We’re now eagerly awaiting the date for the final to see if we can go all the way.
The club is next to the playground, the Medical Centre, and The Berries Café.
Helen added: “It is a small but mighty hub for sport and social connection.
“While we have 40 core members, our reach extends across the Cheshire and Staffordshire farming communities, providing a vital lifeline against rural isolation.
“Time has not been kind to our court surfaces. In damp weather, they become a serious slipping hazard and prevents us from playing in the next winter leagues.
“To ensure our members can stay active and safe year-round, we need to raise £40,000 for a complete resurfacing of our two courts.”
The club is organising several fundraising events over the summer and are looking for donations and partners.
They are looking for local businesses to sponsor them, with options including wind banners, centre court naming, kit sponsorship and sponsoring a tennis tournament/event.
Club tennis coach Alex has set the ball rolling by offering to donate £5 to the fund for every racket he restrings.
