Michael Vaughan at Crewe Vagrants

Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan entertained a packed Crewe Vagrants club at a special dinner and talk.

Vaughan, who skippered England to the famous Ashes victory over Australia in 2005, spoke candidly about his career as special guest at the Crewe Vagrants cricket club event.

The sell-out dinner also included a raffle and auction of sporting memorabilia, including many signed football and cricket shirts, bats and balls.

In a Q&A with comedian/compere Jamie Sutherland, Vaughan talked about how his career began over in Yorkshire almost by accident.

Born in Manchester, he had hit sights set on a career in football before being roped into a cricket training session as a young boy at school.

He also spoke openly about his relationships with some of the biggest names in the sport, including fellow Ashes legends Shane Warne, Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen.

And he provided a hilarious insight into the infamous Downing Street visit with his England team mates after they had clinched the Ashes series 21 years ago.

It’s the latest guest speaker dinner event organised by the Crewe Vagrants cricket club in Willaston, following on from one given by Ashley Giles in 2025.

The new season is in full swing for all the Crewe Vagrants teams across South Cheshire and North Staffordshire.
