summer fair 2 - RSPCA Stapeley Grange

RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in Nantwich has raised around £5,500 after hosting a successful summer fair.

The annual event hosted by the animal charity on London Road included live music for the first time.

There were appearances from the Sandbach Ukulele Band, Notes for Notes and Druid, Viktoria, Alg & Co, which helped swell the numbers attending to around 700, making it the centre’s busiest event to date.

Visitors enjoyed tours of the wildlife hospital and the new facilities to tackle Avian Flu and had access to the cattery, neither of which are normally open to the public.

People were also able to take in the scenery at the RHS garden and conservation area, which was moved to the Cheshire site after featuring in the 2023 Chelsea Flower Show.

A dog competition, run by the RSPCA Crewe and Nantwich Branch which included categories such as ‘dog most like its owner’, ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘golden oldies’, proved popular.

And a children’s zone, organised by RSPCA Manchester and Salford Branch, helped raise an additional £650 for domestic animals in the region.

There were also food, arts and craft stalls and carnival games, including archery.

RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre Manager Lee Stewart said: “Our summer fair is one of the highlights of the year and we had a really great response from the public in Cheshire and surrounding areas.

“All the funds raised will directly support the thousands of wild, domestic and exotic casualties that come through our doors each year.

“Every year we are inundated with support from individuals and companies – we are blessed with so much love.

“We’d like to thank our neighbours BOOT Property at Stapeley House and Stapeley Technology Park for allowing us the use of their car park and field for this event. We could simply not put on the size of our event without their support.

“We’d also like to thank the following for their support in putting on what is a mammoth event: Simon Shutton who invited and managed the bands, Greenbank Company of Archers, Wyche Dog Training Club and all the stall holders, many of whom support us every year and everyone who supported our raffle that raised £1,000.

“We simply can not put on such an event without our amazing volunteers, our fundraising team and everyone that supported the event on the day. All their support is very much appreciated.

“Our fundraising team has only just finished thinking about the summer fair, but we are now looking forward to our Christmas Fair which will be held on Sunday, November 29.”
