A person was seriously injured when their car careered off a busy road near Nantwich and crashed into a tree.

The accident happened on London Road at Bridgemere at around 12.15pm yesterday (July 9th).

Fire crews from Nantwich and Audlem were called out as one person was left trapped in the wreckage, while another in the car managed to scramble clear.

A Cheshire Fire Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving a car that had left the road and overturned on its side after colliding with a tree.

“One person was trapped inside the vehicle when crews arrived.

“One firefighter entered the vehicle and worked alongside paramedics to assist with the casualty’s safe release.

“Crews used a saw to remove the rear seats and successfully released them from the vehicle and left the casualty in the care of ambulance crews.

“One other person who had been travelling in the car had self-extricated before firefighters arrived. They were also assessed at the scene by paramedics.”

Police closed the A51 road in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended and found that a purple Peugeot 108 had collided with a tree.

“The driver and a passenger in the vehicle both reported minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

“No arrests were made.”
