Ali Chughtai - Nantwich CC

In-form Nantwich 1sts maintained their challenge at the top of Cheshire’s ECB Premier League and booked a place in the T20 Finals Day with two more emphatic wins.

In the Premier League, Oxton chose to bat after winning the toss at Whitehouse Lane and passed the hundred mark for the loss of only three wickets.

But Ray Doyle then took control with the ball, taking 5-9 from 6.1 overs to leave the visitors on 128 all out.

The Dabbers lost Ben Wright to the first ball of their reply but coasted home with seven wickets to spare to take maximum points.

Ali Chughtai top-scored with 46 and that was a sign of things to come as the Nantwich opener put Timperley to the sword in the quarter-finals of the T20 Cup.

Chughtai hit three sixes in his 58-ball 102, the centrepiece of a massive total of 271-4 for Nantwich, who had won the toss and chosen to bat.

Jono Fowler gave the home side some hope of an unlikely win by hitting six sixes in a 20-ball 59 but Doyle removed the danger man and Timperley fell 70 runs short of their target.

On Saturday, the first team travels to Alderley Edge for their Premier League game.

The second team will entertain Upton CC at Whitehouse Lane on Saturday (midday start, all spectators welcome) having collected a valuable league win at Brooklands.

Useful top-order contributions from Jakob Jordan (31), Jason Foulkes (46), Lou Vincent (41) and Scott Wardley (59) helped Nantwich to 300-9 from their 50 overs after being put into bat.

Wardley then took 3-39 with the ball as the home side were bowled out for 143.

There was, though, an agonising defeat for the seconds in their T20 Cup match against Toft, who chose to bat and made 228-6.

Freddy Woodfine’s unbeaten 37 from 16 balls looked as though it might get Nantwich the win but they finished just short on 224-6.

It proved to be a clean sweep of Saturday wins when the third team won at Blythe.

Sarah Nettleton claimed a couple of wickets as the home team were bowled out for 164 after being put into bat and Gareth Mitchell (66 not out) and Rob West (56) both made half-centuries to set up a four-wicket win for the Dabbers.

It was also a successful Sunday for the Dabbers. Jakob Jordan top-scored with 84 as the thirds made 182-9 from their 40 overs, a total that proved too much for the home side at Brooklands.

Noah Birchall (5-42) was the pick of the Nantwich bowlers, who restricted Brooklands to 159-9.

The women’s first team travelled to Greenfield CC and posted a comfortable win after putting the home side into bat.

Morganne Prince and Izzi Pearson took three wickets apiece as Greenfield were bowled out for 70 and Nantwich got home for the loss of only one wicket, thanks to unbeaten knocks of 19 and 24 from Bethan Hughes and Nicola Deane respectively.

The women’s first team entertain Lindow CC at Whitehouse Lane on Sunday (July 12th) 1.30pm start.
